In this glossary, we explain the most important terms related to cosmetic bags, accessories, materials, and beauty products. It is intended for anyone who encounters technical terms while browsing or shopping and wants to quickly understand what they mean. The explanations are deliberately kept general and do not refer to individual products in our shop.
Eye pads
Eye pads are small, crescent-shaped pads that are placed under the eyes. They are soaked in active ingredients such as caffeine, niacinamide, or hyaluronic acid and are intended to reduce puffiness, dark circles, or dryness. They are usually left on the skin for 10 to 20 minutes.
Wireless bra
A wireless bra does not have the semi-circular wire (underwire) under the cups. This often makes it more comfortable and particularly suitable for everyday wear or sleeping. Support and shape are instead created by the cut, elastic materials, or reinforced seams.
Canvas
Canvas is a durable, plain-woven fabric that is often made of cotton. It is commonly used for bags, pouches, and backpacks because it is hard-wearing and relatively lightweight at the same time. Canvas surfaces can be easily printed or dyed.
Corduroy
Corduroy is a fabric with a characteristic ribbed structure and a velvety surface. It is used for clothing, bags, and accessories, among other things. The exact material composition may vary depending on the product..
Décolleté
The décolleté refers to the visible area of the neck, collarbone, and upper chest. It plays an important role in fashion and lingerie because the neckline shape, bra type, and jewelry significantly influence the appearance of the décolleté.
Elastane
Elastane is a synthetic fiber that can stretch to several times its length and then return to its original shape. It is often mixed with other fibers such as polyamide or cotton to give garments like shapewear, sports bras, or leggings stretch and shape retention.
Depilatory cream
A depilatory cream chemically dissolves the hair on the skin's surface, so that it can be easily wiped off after a short application time. It is often applied to the legs, underarms, or bikini area. Compared to shaving, the results often last a little longer because the hair is dissolved just below the skin's surface.
Moisturizing cream
A moisturizing cream supplies the skin with moisture and helps to strengthen the natural skin barrier. It can be formulated for the face or body and contains nourishing ingredients such as oils, honey, or hyaluronic acid depending on the formula. Regular use can help reduce feelings of tightness and dryness.
Hand loop
A hand loop is a short loop on a bag or pouch through which the wrist can be passed. It ensures that the bag does not slip out of the hand as easily and is particularly practical for clutches, cosmetic bags, and small pouches.
Hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in the body that can bind large amounts of water. In cosmetic products such as creams, serums, and eye pads, it is used as a moisturizer. It can help make the skin appear plumper and smoother.
Inner compartment
An inner compartment is a separate section inside a bag or pouch. It helps to keep smaller items such as lipsticks, keys, or cards neatly stored so that they do not slide around loosely in the main compartment.
Caffeine (cosmetics)
In cosmetics, caffeine is used as an active ingredient in eye pads, creams, and serums. It is intended to stimulate the skin's microcirculation and can help reduce puffiness and dark shadows under the eyes. Caffeine is often combined with other active ingredients such as niacinamide.
Drawstring closure
A drawstring closure consists of a cord or string that passes through a tunnel at the top edge of a pouch. By pulling the ends of the cord, the opening is tightened and the pouch is closed. This type of closure is typical for toiletry bags, gym bags, and small cosmetic bags.
Cosmetic bag
A cosmetic bag is a small to medium-sized bag specifically designed for storing makeup and personal care products. It is often made of wipe-clean materials and has a zipper. Cosmetic bags come in many shapes, from a flat pochette to a spacious toiletry bag.
Toiletry bag
A toiletry bag is a bag for hygiene and personal care items, primarily used for travel. Unlike a cosmetic bag, it is often slightly larger and offers space for a toothbrush, shampoo, and similar products. The term is used gender-neutrally.
Lip gloss
Lip gloss is a lip product that gives the lips shine and a light tint. Compared to lipstick, the texture is usually more liquid and transparent. Lip gloss can be applied on its own or over lipstick to achieve a shiny effect.
Makeup essentials
Makeup essentials refer to the basic cosmetic products needed for everyday makeup. These typically include foundation, mascara, lipstick or lip gloss, and concealer. The term is often used to describe the typical contents of a cosmetic bag.
Sea salt styling spray
A sea salt styling spray is a hairspray based on sea salt that gives the hair more texture and grip. It creates a casual, wavy look reminiscent of beach hair. The spray is sprayed into damp or dry hair and worked in with the hands.
Niacinamide
Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 that is used in skincare products such as serums, creams, and eye pads. The active ingredient can help refine the skin's appearance, reduce dark spots, and support the skin barrier. Niacinamide is considered well-tolerated and is often combined with other active ingredients.
Polyamide
Polyamide is a synthetic fiber characterized by high tear resistance and shape retention. In fashion, it is often used for sports bras, shapewear, and swimwear. Polyamide dries quickly and feels smooth on the skin.
Embossed pattern
An embossed pattern is a pattern pressed into the surface of a material using pressure or heat. On bags and accessories made of faux leather or leather, it creates a tactile texture, such as crocodile, woven, or geometric patterns. Embossing gives the material a more premium appearance.
PU faux leather
PU faux leather is a synthetic material in which a polyurethane coating is applied to a textile backing. It looks like real leather but is generally cheaper and easier to care for. PU faux leather is often used for bags, cosmetic bags, and accessories.
Push-up bra
A push-up bra has padded or gel-filled inserts in the cups that lift the breasts and make them appear fuller. It is particularly suitable for tops with a low neckline. Depending on the model, there are different levels of padding.
Zipper
A zipper is a fastening system consisting of two rows of teeth that are joined or separated by a slider (zipper). It is the most commonly used closure for cosmetic bags, toiletry bags, and handbags. Zippers come in various designs, such as metal or plastic versions.
Shoulder bag
A shoulder bag is a bag with a long strap that is worn over the shoulder. It leaves both hands free and is well suited for everyday use, shopping, or on the go. Shoulder bags come in many sizes, materials, and designs.
Lace pattern
A lace pattern is a decorative, openwork pattern reminiscent of traditional lace. In lingerie, it is often used on bras, panties, and negligées to give the pieces a feminine, elegant look. Lace patterns can be embroidered, woven in, or printed.
Sports bra
A sports bra is specially designed for physical activity and offers more support than a conventional bra. It reduces breast movement while running, jumping, or exercising and is usually made of breathable, quick-drying materials. Sports bras come in different levels of support, tailored to the intensity of the sport.
Carrying handle
A carrying handle is a fixed handle on the top of a bag that allows you to carry it comfortably in your hand. On cosmetic bags and toiletry bags, it makes gripping and carrying easier. Depending on the bag, carrying handles are made of fabric, faux leather, or plastic.
